We hire at the following rates for Wyoming Peace Officer certifications:

Temporary Peace Officer ($63,634), Basic Peace Officer Certification ($66,876), Advanced Peace Officer ($70,283) and Professional Peace Officer ($73,864). Officers earn a $2.00/hour shift differential. Officers assigned to the Patrol Division work approximately 1040 hours eligible for the shift differential.

Wyoming P.O.S.T. will determine certification equivalencies for out of state hires.

Police officers have the opportunities to expand their careers by serving in the Criminal Investigations Division, Field Training Office Program, K-9 program, School Resource Officer Program, Firearms Program, Custody and Control Program, Less Lethal Program, all while living at the eastern base of the Big Horn Mountains in northern Wyoming.

Chief Koltiska welcomes a variety of experiences and backgrounds. Desired experiences may include a current law enforcement certification, an Associate Degree or higher, military service, community service and proven strength of character. We value well rounded individuals of high character with quality life experience.

In addition to the listed pay and benefits the City of Sheridan is offering hiring bonuses.

  • Officers whose credentials transfer to Wyoming P.O.S.T. for certification will receive a $7500 bonus ($1500 upon hiring, $3000 upon completion of the first year probationary period and $3000 upon successful completion  of the second year of employment). 
  • Candidates without prior certification eligibility will receive a $3500 bonus ($1500 upon hiring and $2000 upon the completion of the first year probationary period).

Temporary housing may be available.

The Sheridan Police Department offers written testing services for the position of Police Officer through National Testing Network (NTN). To register with NTN and schedule a test, go to, select ‘Find Jobs’, then select Law Enforcement Jobs and sign up for the Sheridan Police Department.

When you visit the website you may:

  • Complete the NTN registration process and schedule your test.
  • Review all information related to the Sheridan PD Police Officer position, including minimum requirements, salary, and benefits.
  • Review detailed information about the testing process.
  • Review the Frequently Asked Questions and take an online practice test (if desired). 

Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded to the Sheridan PD. Candidates who attain a passing score on the entry-level exam and submit an application will be placed on the department’s eligibility list. The Sheridan PD will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to participate in further stages of the selection process.
