Yes! We love educating our community on what we do at the Waste Water Treatment Plant. Thanks for being interested! Please contact us at (307) 674-7038 to schedule a tour.
No, we do not. Treated and dewatered sludge is transported to the City Landfill to be mixed with green waste for composting.
While many of Wyoming's Wastewater Treatment Plants have lagoons, the City of Sheridan does not.
The plant is classified as a Level IV and is rated at 4.4 million gallons per day.
The plant uses an activated sludge extended aeration process.
Yes, each backup operator is fully trained in lab analysis and we do have a full time Laboratory Coordinator.
Yes, the Wastewater Treatment Plant is regulated by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and EPA to follow strict discharge guidelines.
EPA Guidelines require an 85% removal rate of all pollutants, but our team at the Sheridan WWTP far surpass those guidelines averaging 95% or higher!
Anything that could potentially harm the biological process of our plant, such as: fats, oils and grease, prescription medicines, all petroleum products, acids, pesticides and harsh cleaners. See our educational flyer on our Sewer Home Page for more information on this topic.
When it comes to flushing, easier than remembering what "can't" be flushed, you can just remember that the ONLY product that CAN be flushed down a toilet is toilet paper. That's it! Easy to remember, right?! Even when wipes or products claim to be "flushable", those products are typically the number one reason for clogged pipes and can cause many issues to the sewer system and treatment process.
The effluent water (sewage that has been treated) is filtered using a 100 micron filter before it is utilized within the plant. The filtered water is used for the filter belt press wash down process, landscaping and non-potable hose reel system.
